Some time ago, YogYES visited this rest house. We drove past the road from Kotagede Kusumanegara and Sultan Agung to the intersection of Post Office. From the intersection, we drove on through the first junction after Gamping Market and turn left. We then turned left again after finding a small sign that explains the direction to go Pesanggrahan Ambarketawang.

We got surprised in the beginning, when I discovered that the road was a dead end. End of the road was a field, while the right-left is the yard and the houses. We had thought that we were going the wrong way, but eventually that changed when the mind turned to the right and find a wall whose color is black. The thickness of the wall that makes us believe that the wall is part of this rest house.
We then approached a citizen named Tarsono who happened to be at this location. Not surprisingly, it was he who now have the right to manage land in the rest house. Tarsono through the 72-year-old now, we can find the parts remaining rest house and some acreage that used to be an important part of the rest house built by Pakubuwono II.
The wall that we first met, it is a wall leading from this rest house, while the empty area on the east wall is the gateway to the rest house part. Yard on the south wall is now overgrown with large trees is a former rest house of the square, while the south wall of the courtyard was the old stables.
Not far from the front wall, there is a magic well. Water from the wells of the same age with Ambarketawang Guesthouse is said to cure various diseases. Tarsono told, once there was a paralysis that bath with this water and eventually recovered instantly. Until now, this water is still used by local residents, especially if there is one sick family member.
If accurate, just to the left of the well is a brick structure that is almost parallel to the ground. Composition of the brick is part of the underground channel, often called the culvert, which extends north about 6 meters. If the trace to the north, you can see a similar brick structure that is the end of the underground channel that can pass this man.
Still in the nearby area, we encountered similar buildings that have the cement floor of moss. We had thought that the building was used cement floor, but it is part of upstairs building this rest house. In fact, the building is the only building on the palace floor that can still be found on the floor because the building had been lost and the other floors of the building until now buried beneath the ground.
Apart from some parts of the building rest house, there is also a new building of the pavilion. Various arts activities take place in the hall of Java, as macapat Pahing held every Thursday and martial art held every Tuesday. Tembang macapat sung at the show usually talked about the division of Mataram into Surakarta and Yogyakarta, as written in the Babad Giyanti.
Satisfied around the area, we walked along the path at the edge of the field to a few hundred feet to the north. There, we found another part of the building rest house, a wall directly adjacent to the tomb. Thick walls which are now blackened color also is believed to be the back wall of the building that formerly pesanggrahan extends to the west and east.
On the east wall, there is a large stone fenced with iron. The big stone was actually part of the mountain limestone (lime) which was found in this region. It is said that the presence of limestone mountain that causes Guesthouse Ambarketawang chosen as the courts. Now, limestone mountain that was not there because gampingnya been widely used for construction of houses.
Just to the right of a big stone, there is the same rock the stage like a rock size, not part of the rest house. Stage was used in one part of the offering ceremony, the slaughter bekakak (bride doll). The ceremony was held for the past many of the victims died while taking the limestone. Until now, the ceremony still held once a year, every month Sapar, after the date of 20.
Usually, the procession offering ceremony to the front of the former Ambarketawang Guesthouse. There also held a variety of art performances such as wayang kulit night, mecapat, gamelan and so on. According Tarsono, ritual offerings that are often referred Saparan until now kept busy visit, both by residents about both the people who want to watch.
If you visit during Saparan Ambarketawang Guesthouse, of charm in the first court of this Sultanate Ngayogyakarta be complete. However, if you do not have time to visit in the day, you can visit on another day. At least, you can enjoy the charm of this pesanggrahan region. There was no fee charged for entry into this area.
